What is CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring)?
Continuous Glucose Monitoring, also called CGM, uses a small medical device attached to the skin to provide 24/7 monitoring of blood sugar (blood glucose). Our Dayton-based, experienced physician prescribes a CGM sensor (Freestyle Libre) which is self-applied painlessly at home by our patients in about five minutes. The sensor then provides the user 24/7 blood glucose data readouts and smartphone app graphing of glucose trends. This extremely-safe technology has been used by diabetics for over 15 years, and is now also available to non-diabetics as part of our physician-supervised medical weight loss program.
How does CGM Work for Weight Loss?
Low carbohydrate consumption is integral to the CGM diet. The CGM device provides patient’s continuous blood glucose level feedback, resulting in informed and optimal food choice decisions. Through the use of remote monitoring tools, our practice provides patient feedback on a frequent basis, sometimes multiple times weekly if needed.
